Academic English -kurssi kehittää englannin kielen taitoa akateemiseen opiskeluun, tutkimukseen, kirjoittamiseen, esityksiin ja kansainväliseen viestintään. Course objectives
The aim of the course is to help participants use English more accurately, clearly and confidently in academic contexts. The course focuses on the vocabulary, structures and communication skills needed for reading academic texts, following lectures, participating in seminars, giving presentations and writing academic texts.
The course is especially useful for learners preparing for IELTS, university entrance requirements or other examinations that assess academic English proficiency. It is also suitable for participants who need to study, teach, present research, attend international conferences or communicate in English-speaking academic environments.

Academic vocabulary and expressions
Participants develop their command of academic vocabulary and formal expressions used in texts, lectures, seminars and research-related communication. The course covers expressions such as concept, cast doubt on, put forward a theory, draw a conclusion, support an argument and analyse the results.
The course also focuses on the broader language needed to compare ideas, describe evidence, refer to sources, evaluate arguments and communicate complex information in a clear and structured way.
Academic writing
In the writing component, participants practise producing clear, coherent and well-structured academic texts. Depending on the participants’ needs, the course may include summaries, short essays, reports, research descriptions, abstracts, conclusions and other academic writing tasks.

Level assessment
Before the course begins, participants’ English level can be assessed with a free level test. The assessment may include speaking, listening, reading, writing and academic vocabulary.
