Preparation Course for NATO STANAG 6001 English Language Assessment
Course Objective
The main objective of this course is to prepare the student for the NATO STANAG 6001 English Language Assessment. The course focuses on the four skills assessed in the exam: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The training is based on military, defence, security, and international cooperation contexts.
During the course, the student will become familiar with STANAG-style tasks, improve military and professional vocabulary, develop accuracy and fluency, and practise the type of communication required in the assessment and in multinational military environments.
Course Content
The course combines exam preparation, military vocabulary development, and practical language training. The material Check Your Vocabulary for Military English is used to expand the student’s command of key terminology related to military structures, ranks, units, equipment, operations, logistics, peacekeeping, security, intelligence, NATO cooperation, and international missions.
Listening
Listening practice focuses on understanding briefings, instructions, reports, interviews, operational updates, and professional discussions. The student will practise identifying main ideas, specific information, opinions, and relevant details in military and defence-related contexts.
Speaking
Speaking practice prepares the student for oral communication tasks similar to those used in the STANAG assessment. The student will practise giving opinions, describing situations, explaining procedures, presenting information, answering questions, and participating in professional discussions. Attention is given to clarity, fluency, pronunciation, accuracy, and logical organisation of answers.
Reading
Reading practice includes military-related articles, reports, instructions, official texts, operational descriptions, and information documents. The student will practise understanding the main message, finding specific details, interpreting vocabulary from context, and analysing the structure and purpose of different texts.
Writing
Writing practice focuses on producing clear, accurate, and well-structured texts. The student will practise emails, reports, summaries, descriptions, opinions, and short essays related to military and professional topics. The course also develops grammar, formal style, paragraph structure, linking expressions, and the ability to communicate information effectively in writing.
STANAG-style exam practice
The course also includes STANAG-style exam practice, correction of typical mistakes, feedback on performance, and strategies for completing exam tasks effectively. The final part of the course includes integrated revision and simulated tasks covering listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

After completing the course, the student will have a clearer understanding of the NATO STANAG 6001 English Language Assessment and stronger skills in military English.
